The Fifth Stop of the Lennart Anderson Retrospective
An opportunity to see my father's work is coming to Chicago
Lennart Anderson (1928-2015) was an acclaimed American figurative painter known for his mastery of tone, color, and composition. This first major survey since his death features 41 works spanning over seven decades, coming from both public and private collections. Described by The New York Times as a prominent painter who "translated figurative art into a modern idiom," Anderson was deeply influenced by Old and New Masters. Hilton Kramer succinctly wrote that Anderson was a "Degas of our time." - The John David Mooney Foundation

Lennart Anderson: A 1967 Lecture on His Work and Influences
An adjacent gallery will display an 80-minute lecture Lennart Anderson gave at the Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture in 1967. (My mother must have been there somewhere pregnant with me.) This audio recording, set to slides and archival footage, discusses many of the works on view at the John David Mooney Foundation.
Posts related to works in the retrospective include:
Portrait of Mimi (1964) and Nude (1961-64) will also be on view.
Perhaps I’ll see you there.
Oh perfect, I was so excited to see the Chicago address! I'll be there!
Exciting! When is Mimi's retrospective? (LOL)
