She stands confidently in the painting, grounded… just as in the photo of her next to the painting. Beautiful!

I am misty-eyed over this recovery of your mother as she saw herself.

I'm really enjoying your stories about your mother and her art Eliza. I am wondering if she knew my artist uncle, Gib Taylor who was living in the Village at the same time.

Hi Audrey - thank you for reading and commenting. I don’t know if she knew your uncle. But she knew many more people than I did. :)

Wow, Eliza. This is such a wonderful piece, but frustrating too given the unanswered questions the painting poses. Your mother looks incredibly modern, as you say, with what looks like a sweatshirt on. It's so different from the initial sketch in terms of mood, too. I'm also loving the synchronicity, as I'm writing about my own inherited monstera at the moment for a commission, and referencing Matisse. I've bookmarked Woman in Black, and can't wait to read it as well. Basically, your entire archive!

That synchronicity is very interesting. I do believe connections happen for a reason. I’m paying attention and I need to dig further into your work. Thank you for reading and your enthusiasm and support. All the way from The Royal Mile. :)
